Frequently Asked Questions

We have included many of the questions people commonly have about our NYC pet sitting services. If your question or concern is not addressed below, please feel free to contact us.

Manhattan cat - Bandit

My cat doesn’t get along well with other animals. Do you have host homes where they can be the only animal?

Yes, indeed! Depending on your furry friend’s preferences, we can place them in a home with or without other playmates.

What is the minimum number of days that my pet can be cared for?

We don’t have a minimum day requirement for cat sitting. However for the safety of your pet, we do not offer “every other day” services. We generally have a five-night minimum for boarding stays.

Can I receive a recommendation from a current or past client of yours?

It would be our pleasure to put you in direct contact with another client of ours. Once we discuss your needs and find the perfect sitter, we can have a past client of that sitter get in touch with you. We take tremendous pride in the quality of our sitters and the service we provide, and we’re thankful to have received such great feedback from past clients.

Will I get to meet my pet sitter before I make my decision?

Absolutely, yes. We want every pet sitting job to be perfectly matched for both the client and sitter. A complimentary “meet and greet” will be set up by your pet sitter to ensure a proper fit.

Are your pet sitters insured?

All our pet sitters/boarders are insured and bonded through Pet Sitters International.

How much advanced notice do you require?

We certainly understand that last-minute obligations, business trips, and much needed getaways are part of a busy lifestyle. And we will always do our best to accommodate you on short notice. But we’re not a mega-agency and, consequently, we have a limited number of sitters and boarders. So at the risk of stating the obvious, giving us a more advanced notice is always appreciated. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s holidays are very busy times for us so we kindly ask that you secure your reservation in advance.

Will I be able to use the same pet sitter every time?

It is always our goal to maintain consistency when caring for your pet. On the rare occasion that your usual pet sitter is unavailable due to scheduling conflict, a suitable substitute sitter will be provided.

Are you able to board pets that have not been spayed or neutered?

We are unable to board pets over the age of six months who have not been spayed or neutered.

Will my pet be in a cage while he/she is being boarded?

No, we never use cages. All pets will have the run of the house with their host pet sitter. Unless otherwise requested, your pet will likely be the only animal in the home.

Will I receive updates with regard to how my pet is doing while I’m away?

Yes, certainly. Generally speaking, we offer daily email updates in the case of home visits and updates every other day when boarding your pet. However, that is not etched in stone, and we will always do our best to tailor the amount of contact to your individual needs.

Are there specific hours during which I need to drop off or pick up my pet?

We do not have set hours for drop-off and pick-up. Katie’s Kitty pet sitters are quite flexible and are willing to work with you to make your drop-off or pick-up convenient for you.

What days are you available?

We are available every day of the year, including holidays.

Do you have a vet to call on in an emergency?

Prior to taking care of your pet we will get information from you regarding what to do in an emergency, including the name and contact information for your personal veterinarian. If you don’t have a veterinarian, we would use a veterinary office within close proximity to your home or, in the case of boarding, to the boarder’s home.

Can I tip my sitter/boarder?

While tipping sitters/boarders is not required, it is always welcomed. Our sitters/borders appreciate receiving tips for the excellent care they provide. 100% of the tips the sitters/boarders earn is theirs to keep.
